Tre’n Vownder was the first new house we built on our own, from the excavations to the landscaping. It is insulated concrete formwork on an insulated ground slab, with a sedum roof kept low to meet the planning limit on ridge height. The build took nine months.
Built properly, ICF is a very steady, low-energy shell. This house has an A energy rating and an air-permeability result of just over 1. Running costs are a fraction of an older house of the same size.
The joinery is specific to the house: an oak and glass staircase, and a walkway from the lounge balcony out to the garden. The kitchen has a Silestone worktop, and the floors are Woodpecker, with a 15-year anti-scratch warranty.
